Peter L. Lu received BA and MD degrees from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA, before completing his paediatrics residency, gastroenterology fellowship, and advanced training in neurogastroenterology and motility disorders at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, OH, USA. He is currently a paediatric gastroenterologist at the hospital, specialising in functional and motility-related gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, as well as Research Director of the GI Motility Center at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Columbus.

Dr Lu’s current research focus includes the evaluation of neuromodulation-based treatment for children with functional GI disorders (FGIDs), and he has authored several research papers, invited reviews and book chapters on FGIDs, including the epidemiology of FGIDs in children and risk factors for FGID development. He holds leadership positions in the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society and the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN), whose official podcast – Bowel Sounds: The Pediatric GI Podcast – he co-created and hosts. In November 2019, he co-chaired the inaugural Pediatric Neurogastroenterology and Motility Conference held in Columbus.
